Aims Prep
AIMS Language Arts (.50 credits)
Through a high school-level review of the reading process, this course develops an awareness of the three basic genres of texts—functional, informational, & literary–that students will be exposed to on their AIMS tests. From vocabulary-building exercises that study roots and affixes to enhancing the necessary skills to understand new words in context, this course employs comprehension strategies that help to clarify textual meaning. We assess student progress throughout with practice AIMS tests, exercises, and vocabulary quizzes.
Our review of the high school writing process covers everything from sentence structure and word choice to the pre-writing, drafting, editing, and publishing stages. Students will produce a portfolio of their essays that will be graded according to the six traits rubric, and each of these traits will be individually analyzed in order to increase student awareness of the grading criteria as well as to prepare students for their AIMS writing test.
